New Laptop/Computer - Single Disk with Unmovable files ?
If you have recently bought a new laptop and your trying to create a new partition then there might be couple of issues which will make you cry.
Firstly, Windows Operating system allocates all the files in the middle of the hard disk. These files can be later on moved to the start of the disk and then you can shrink the volume to create a new partition.
To Shrink Volume ( For windows 7 )
Right click on My Computer
Click on Manage
Click on Disk Management
Choose the Drive whose partition is to be shrinked, Right click on the drives image/Label and click Shrink.
Enter the size to which the device is to be shrinked. Please note that this size cannot be the more than the available shrink size cluster (If you want to extract maximum space click shrink right away).
Please note that Windows cannot shrink to size to where unmovable files are located.
After that process, windows will create new ’Unallocated Space’ in the Disk management utility.
Right click and select ‘Create a New Volume’.
Select a ‘Volume Label’
That’s it. But if you still want to partition it beyond the cluster where the unmovable files are located then we’ll have to opt a little tedious process. We'll have to use Boot level Partition as any partitioning software will now work under the windows environment , windows will hinder the process of partitioning.
